The UN has six principal organs:
- The General Assebly
- All member states are represented in the General Assembly (universal representation)
- Discussing issues and making recommendations within the scope of the primary tasks of the UN
- It has no power to enforce its resolutions
- The Security Council
- The Security Council has the primary responsibilyt to maintain the international peace and security.
- 15 members of which 5 are permanent (USA, Russia, France, China and the United Kingdom) and 10 non-permanent
- Each member has one vote
- The Economic and Social Council
- The principal body of coordination, policy review, policy dialogue and recommendations on economic, social and environmental issues
- 54 members that are elected by the General Assembly
- Platform for reflection, dabate and innovative thinking
- Trusteeship Council
- Provided international supervision for 11 Trust territories that were under the administration of seven member states by the time of establishing the UN
- It was suspended operation in 1994
- The International Court of Justice
- Principal juridical organ of the UN, located in the Peace Palace in the Hague, the Netherlands
- In accordance with international law it settless legal disputes submitted to it and gives advisory opinions on legal questions.
- The Secreteriat
- Comprises the UN staff members who work in the UN Organization
- The Chief administrative office of the UN Organization
